I hope this email finds you well. I have a couple of brief questions if I may prevail on your time. I managed to get a copy of 'Tune a day for Flute' it's great thanks and comes with a cd which helps a lot. Q1: I can't perceive any difference in sound between B and B flat. Is my hearing, the flute or something I'm doing wrong? probably you have your left thumb on the wrong key look carefully and youll see the thumb key is 2 keys - the division on thumb key to left alsoways plays the Bb the dibison on right of thumb key only the B top play the Bb you should never really use that part of the thumb key to left you play a normal B and use index finger right hand with it to play B b do you see this division on thumb jey onb a fingering chart in the book ?
Q2: How does the split E function work? I'm battling a bit with upper E so I wondered if there is something I'm supposed to be doing to make it easier. I don't have a teacher and am probably picking up bad habits as well. But I must say I'm really enjoying the flute and the challenge of learning a new instrument. split is E is built in , dont even try to play the 3rd regoster yet ,,,,, youre skipping too far ahead to quickly ,,but you should be doing long notes 8 seconds * 3 on every note in lower register every day for 2 months then each wekk after that add one more note upwaqrds ( C above middle C then next 2 weeks D aboce that for weeks and so on....... during long notes aim to refine and listen opening the throat ,,, playing with MINIMUM lip pressure making sure your jaw is coirrect positions making a less smiley lip ship ahpe and more of a ooo shape ,,, thinking about these only for around 10-15 minutes daily...... tricky witout a teacher to correct,,but lets see if after 2 weeks its getting better ( the quality of sound ,,,,...a DVD might help?? Watching a teacher,,that way? Im sure there are some there too..oredring online ..what do you think ?
