WELCOME Why not also click here to enter our competition to win some of our software courses, or sheet music or tutorials FREE

Reading your casio manual you may now be aware that you can convert any midi format 0 song file into a step lesson - yet the casio software alone cannot accomplish this unless the MIDI file has its tracks set correctly . Some midi format 1 files additionally have to be resaved as midi format 0 ( These are the 2 types of formats MIDI files come in )

What your casio keyboard manual hasnt explained, as its outside the realm of the Casio Software, is how exactly do you change  MIDI SONGS with arbitary channels ( for instance the midi channel for the right hand piano part or the voical solo part might be on midi channel 1, 6 or 2.) to the correct midi channel 4 and 3 settings

Most MIDI files need adjustment of TRACKS. The TRACKS need to be set to CORRECT MIDI CHANNELS with COMMERCIAL MIDI SEQUENCING PROGRAMS . Also you dont want to buy expensive and complicated software to be able to do this . understanding how to operate this software will be more time than its worth if this is your only aim.

HERE WE PROVIDE A FREE PROGRAM TO EITHER  PAID SUBSCRIBERS OR INSTRUMENT PURCHASERS FROM US TO DO THIS WITH A SET OF EASY GRAPHICALLY ILLUSTRATED STEP BY STEP INSTRUCTIONS THAT WILL ALLOW YOU TO DO THIS IN ONLY 15 MINUTES WITH NO PRIOR KNOWLEDGE OF MIDI SEQUENCING.

The step lesson right hand function will only work if that right hand part or track is set to midi channel 4

The step lesson left hand function will only work if that right hand part or track is set to midi channel 3

Iinstrument purchasers from us paid subscribers can
1)  download the program here
 2) access more of the graphically illustrated tutorials you see below  in the  paid subscriber for this section or Instrument purchaser secure section

Click here to access 1) and 2) above
( to access this section youll have to be logged on as a paid subscriber for this section or Instrument purchaser)

( we are presently updating our shopping basket with these seperate tutorial / program downloads for various aspects of LEARNING MIDI for members who want to purchase permissions on the forum seperately, but have not bought instruments from us - Each set of about 15 to 30  graphically illustrated tutorial pages with a program download link will cost between US$5 to US$10  Please reply to this post if youd like more details )

Here is the beginning in the series of graphic tutorials needed for setting midi channels correctly for casio user memory or smartmedia card songs step lesson function

TUTORIAL PAGE 1 - Open a midi file in the program

TUTORIAL PAGE 2 - browse and bring the midi file into the program

TUTORIAL PAGE 3 - notice now Tracks 00 02  and 04 in the "T" column all previously empty, are now filled with MIDI data . These TRACKS will now tell us to which MIDI CHANNELS they are assigned as we proceed with the next step

Click here to access the complete graphically illustrated ( as above ) tutorials with a link to download the program
( to access this section youll have to be logged on as a paid subscriber for this section or Instrument purchaser)

TUTORIAL PAGE 4 - Here is how we simply change TRACK DATA to dsiplay MIDI DATA ( Remeber we are trying to change where neccessary any RIGHT HAND MELODY to MIDI CHANNEL 4 and LEFT HAND MELODY to MIDI CHANNEL 3 )

Click here to access the complete graphically illustrated ( as above ) tutorials with a link to download the program
( to access this section youll have to be logged on as a paid subscriber for this section or Instrument purchaser)

TUTORIAL PAGE 5 and 6  - Before we make any changes to the track info we need to establish by listening seperately to each track whether it is the RIGHT HAND ( Higher melody ) or the LEFT HAND ( Lower melody)

TUTORIAL PAGE 5 We need to change the P Column which allows all parts to play simultaneously to an S on the track we wish to hear which will allow us to hear ONLY THAT TRACK and establish if this is the track we want to play as MIDI CHANNEL 4 as the right hand , or MIDI CHANNEL 3 as the left hand

I am interested in the Casio type conversion software that can help set the correct channels so the keyboard lessons will work correctly on midi files found on the internet. Please send me information or a link. Thank You!

Casio does not provide support to change the channels. However Ive written a tutorial for paid members here with a software download enabling you to do this. Ive also sent you a personal message[/irl]

I would like to convert midi files to be used as step up lessons (right and left hand) for my casio LK-270. I have no idea how to change the channels to be used with my keyboard and according to technical support neither does Casio. (Something very simple would be great!) Thanks!

thats what this page is for - please click the links above ....or here again
http://ezmusic4u.com/smf/index.php/topic,231.0.html

there is no simple easy way on all occassions - it does require patience + investigation to find out what channels youre going to change - arrangers dont have casio keyboards in mind when they arrange music. One might put the melody in channel 2 another in channel 1 and youll have to move it after listening carefully or weatching the sheet music you print fomr that channel to identify the melody , to channel 4 . Occassionally even worse (esp in solo piano works  ) the melody is sometimes spread out sometimes over many channle and has ot be recombined into one ( channel 4 )

Through a process of muting some channles as threy play and soloing some others youll eventually see where the melody lies ,,but if you cant understand Muting and soling tracks ,,advise gte more familiar with midi sequencing ,,ths forum is not for beginner midi sequencers /arrnagers,,thats too advanced a subject, for here.

In other words if youre a beginner try and not choose midi arrnagemtns with 8-16 channles aprts.

FInd simple ones....no more than 3 or 4 tracks ,,,and it will be easier to identify a melody - and forget about left hand parts ,,,,thats advanced rearranging ,,,just try and do channel 4 ...right hand melody

Please note our support for  Free Platinum members  is very limited apart from the wealth of free information already here

due to limitations on my time  - I can only spend more time for instrument purchasers (GOLD members ) from us from http://www.skysun.co.za in south africa

My contribution to this topic is now closed except for paid GOLD members

It would be nice ( though it rarely happens , that a free member with even a little skills takes sometime to help though - I seem to be the only one answering the questions...so who has the knowledge why not show that "community spirit" Smiley

thanks
