WELCOME Why not also click here to enter our competition to win some of our software courses, or sheet music or tutorials FREE

CASIO LIGHTING KEYBOARDS ( The music here is for ALL Brands of keyboards and piano - this program though is only to create step123  lessons for extra songs you download from the net if you have the latest USB CASIO keyboards with user songs (LK70s LK90TV LK93D lighting CTK800 non lighting -OR creating left and right hand  Privia Lesson function songs from midi files - as well as MP3 or your own CD music )

To download Casio SMF conversion to midi program click on  the download_vanbasco_casioSMF.doc document file attached at the green background on this post.

To see what a casio lighting keyboard step lesson is have a look   here at flash demo of a step lighting lesson

Our courses you might have taken online all light up the red keys on the casio lighting to with a simple USB connection - they also play through these wonderful digital pianos   though these dont light up

Perhaps as you become more inspired by these lessons you'll take the leap and buy one through  us here for USA and Canadian visitors or here for South African

And then well give you you all 16 lessons iinstall for your PC and guide you through many more learning steps too, giving you addional files to load to the user songs. Complete begiunners try the first two lessons online here where the full explantion of how to use them is and then once you understand that download the lessons 3- 8 also freely here

There are both  .cm2 versions for smart card readers to load on your smart cards and format 0 .MID    (midi) versions for you to convert to .cm2 with the casio software.

All of of the categories of songs here HAVE .MID attachments in their posts because ANY keyboards can use them. So only download the .cm2 files in this post if you have a smart card reader .

For Casio USB keyboards WITHOUT SMART CARD READERS
Download the format 0 .MID files ( all .MID attachments on the boards are format 0 ) and the use the .MID files in the other board categoriesor or specialised midi files made for piano in 2 trracks or at least one  in the following way:

Browse with CASIO CONVERSION program ( It will appear on your program files as CASIO / SMF CONVERTER once installed ) on its browse button for your midi file on your PC

Once found it will ask you  you to EITHER
1) save the one you have browsed for  as a .cm2 ( if you intend loading it to your smart card reader )
 or
2) It will ask you to which song to  SEND it via a USB cable to user memory songs  65 66 67 68 or 69 (LK70 and LK90 and another 5 in LK93D and then simply press the SEND button and it  becomes another step lighting  lesson song on your keyboard.

NB You must first load the CD rom and install the casio USB midi in and midi out driver on your keyboard first ( the CD that came with your keyboard )

SO once again the .cm2 file attachments  here just below are for SMART CARD READERS. GO to the other board categories for the FORMAT 0 . MID user song files
__________________________________________________________________________________________________

To download songs from the internet -- there are some sites Ive collected for purchasers ( ALL INSTRUMENTS) here whose sites are sometimes better than others ( in other words the midi files are arranged properly on track 4 and 3 midi in format 0 for right hand channel 4 and left hand channel 3 -- That said this past 2 years has been a revelation for me as a music teacher. Just downloading a black eyed peas  or any other midi song  and a midi later seeing it stop pause patiently flickering on each note before played and create lessons instantaneously ( at last a machine is doing my job  Grin  .. just as  amazing to me as a teacher is that one button played as the song plays and then whenever one chooses pressing the button again and hey presto th song actually loops from the place you pressed the button first only.- Ive spent half my life telling students to be patient and repeat sections -- well now Casio does it for you - its impossible to memorise a whole song at once so yes choose how much of the song you think you can handle at once and off you go ( Looping is only available on the lighting LK90TV and LK93D not the LK70 and the non lighting CTK800 but not the  LK70s )

My only wish is that other teachers catch on to this technology and make their students as well as their own life a pleasure   ..and one can download free midi songs with the software van basco at the bottom of  too --  the free midi songs on net including  classical piano/ full band / orchestral midi and the list is endless - well try for yourself and have fun  Smiley

Yes. USB is the simpler and cheaper way to connect rather than the old way where one buys a midi connection kiit to connect the midi in and out to USB on PC.

Just playing any midi song say from windows media player on PC through the USB cable lights up the keyboard even without conversion to step lesson .

And of course anything playing on the keyboard can be recorded on PC too through USB.

The only differance is that unlike STEP LESSONS format /cm2 which is what the CASIO SMF converter does to midi file to enable them to wait note by note for you to playing the flickering red note before the next one lights up, is a normal  midi play back of an unconverted fie will simply play and not wait for you to play it .

Does the USB cable also provide normal midi in and midi out ? or do you have to convert all midi songs to see them light up the keys through USB.
Thanks

and do I have to convert what I play into medi? why can't the computer read it as medi staight away and let me make music with reason.... Reason does not reconise the keybord! it's not looking for a usb it's looking for a midi instrument. I have bought this key bord and it is of no use to me... lk93 tv

Not so - the reason is mostly likely you have not installed the Casio CD ROM coming with the Lk93 or have alterred your CONTROL PANEL Settings - you can rectify this reading the post in the free registered members section

( From now on only members - not unregistered guests  can - post hope visitors understand - we would prefer to know that you are notified or at least interested in  responses and that responses are worth writing )[/color]

Just a quick question.  I bought the Casio LK 200 this week and tried to covert free children midi files that I downloaded to the CM2 files with the SMF software.

Only a few of them work correctly. The rest play as midi files but do not show the keyboard lights. Can it be the quality of the midi files?  Do one need midi files with lyrics included to have a good conversion rate?

I downloaded all the software that is recommended. Which one allows you to see detail of the computer when one play? as above VANBASCO + TUTORIAL and software download link in SET MIDI CHANNEL tutorial post on forum

( you mean  software shows send to user memory ( youre not saving them as a .CM2 file ( that can only be used on card  )- unless you are doing on the card and have a card reader ?

No - lyrics are just (any) midi track where included

Only MIDI CHANNELS 4 and 3 will light up - a pro arranger knows to make the main melody on midi channel 4 ( this is the standard ) ( an amateur sometimes doesnt )

here is the paid members only tutorial ( sample tut here ) the members tutorial  has a link to software to download and use - where you can change the Midi channels by yourself ( SET KEYBOARD USER SONGS TO CORRECT CHANNELS  tutorial ) but the step before that would be to identify WHICH channel the melody is written -

download the VB midi player here
press the output window in the player

play the midi file in the VB player and solo each channel (PRESS OUTPUT WINDOW) until you hear only the melody

The melody will be in an arbitrary channel 1 to 16 but not 4 or 3 if it doesnt light up  on your keyboard - you need to remember which one then go back and change it to MIDI CHANNEL 4 preferable ( 3 would be for lower left hand piano part ) as in tutorial

I downloaded all the software that is recommended. Which one allows you to see detail of the computer when one play? as above

Hi,
I downloaded de SMFconverter but I cannot find the way to download any file to my computer for further transfer to a memory card and then to my keyboard LK200.
The site takes me round in circles and never to a place to download new music. Maybe I don't know what to do! Please help..I would like to incorporate more sons to the song bank or piano bank.
Thanks / Lazaro

Ive removed your email link on the post thats an open inviation to spammers which i am sure you will not appreciate  Smiley Better to communcate with members is send them a message from your personal message box but forum posts like you made are even better as everyone benefits so thanks for your post

forums can be pretty confusing at first I know so its good you are asking. As you a are gold member you will find this link directs you to the SONG LIBRARY ENTRANCE . You can download  songs from there to start .

As a gold member you can also access all download sections Links to all downloads - this will explain which programs can help find and also format the midi songs that you download from the net to use on your keyboard user songs. Advise when you get there bookmark in browswer for future reference

This site is not mostly about commercial songs though , its more about lessons and how to play the beginner songs which are a prerequiste to playing more advanced commercial stuff.  + the skills beginners and intermediate players need before they can play songs.

DO you have a manual for the LK200? you should have as they are sold with it .

Its shows you how to use the SMF converter between your keyboard - its basic and sometimes gets confusing to some not pc orientated , id consider spending some hours writing a detailed graphic tutorial for members if there were more requests but yours is the first - its up to members to ask - if we saw enough demand we would put up a tutorial for about US$5 download fee but possibly free to gold members - up to people to request such things as such a tutorial with graphics would take a few days to write

ok let me say once 5 to 10 replies to this post ask I will consider it....forums are about interaction ......and depend on the support of whoever reads these posts

. Let us know how long youve played ...? etc......other members might join in and help you but he or she who never aks rarley gets the answer they seek Smiley

Downloading and then playing the 1000s of songs available on these keyboards is great fun but it takes some patinece learning how to find and download and format them first and use the USB cable and keyboard user song loading etc.

. You are bound to have more questions but first take the steps ive suggested then feel free to ask more

I already know how to do that.  What I want to know is:  When I save a user song from the keyboard to my smart card, it saves as a cm2 or cmR file.  I want to be able to play that on my computer or in a CD player so I need to convert it to a .mid file.  There doesn't seem to be a way to do that.  After I convert it to a .mid file, I will then convert to a .wav file with a conversion program so I can save it to a CD to play in my CD player.

How do I convert a cm2 or cmR file to a .mid file?

Thank you for your quick reply

not to my knowledge you cant. using USB or midi out yuo can record the song onot PC Using a midi sequencer program program like cake walk or the free one  here http://ezmusic4u.com/smf/index.php/topic,174.0.html or a good cost effective one - better if you want to record many channels not just 2  at time http://ezmusic4u.com/smf/index.php/board,96.0.html

Wow, this is almost the exact problem I had.  Here's how I solved it.

I went to anvilstudio.com and downloaded the free software.  Then, I went to the "test settings" and played with the setttings.  BOOM!  Everything worked!

With 8300 hits on this thread of only 12 posts, it's pretty obvious that people have needed a hand of some sort.

thats a good alternative suggestion for standard playback or recording only   - but remember Anvil studio or any midi sequencer will play back the midi file and light up the song - also it will convert the midi file to format 0 if its format 1 originally (simply save as different format ) but remember the effectiveness of the lighting keyboards is to play them back as 3 step lessons  pausing and lighting on every note - for that you need to install the casio software
here is a direct link to it

How to convert midi file to smfo .

first - make sure the midi file is converted to FORMAT 0 MIDI (usaully they are in Format 1 - use this program http://ezmusic4u.com/smf/index.php/topic,555.0.html

then optionally  when in format 0 just send it to your keyboard with the casio software to store in user memory in that cm2 format so it becomes a casio user song

helps ? later
